Suzhou Polar Science Popularization Museum

The Suzhou Polar Science Popularization Museum serves as a science education base.

The Suzhou Polar Science Popularization Museum is located on the third floor of Runda Community, Wumenqiao Subdistrict, Gusu District. It is the first community-level science museum in China, jointly developed by the Shanghai Polar Research Institute, the Suzhou Association for Science and Technology, and the People’s Government of Canglang District. The entire exhibition space covers an area of approximately 300 square meters.

The main indoor exhibition area is divided into three parts: The first part focuses on creating a polar atmosphere, primarily featuring backgrounds of polar landscapes. The second part consists of panel displays, which systematically introduce polar knowledge through three themes: “Mysterious Poles,” “Glorious Journey,” and “Fruitful Achievements.” The third part showcases physical models, including actual polar specimens, scientific research equipment models, and an Antarctic diorama. The outdoor exhibition area is split into eastern and western sections: the eastern section is mainly for direct experience, while the western section is designed for interactive activities.

Since its opening, the museum has hosted approximately 3,000 visitors, including delegations from the China Association for Science and Technology, the Hebei Provincial Association for Science and Technology, the Wuxi Municipal Association for Science and Technology, as well as local students and residents of Suzhou. It has fully demonstrated its role in science education and public outreach, providing an excellent platform for the public to learn about and understand the polar regions. Currently, the museum is recognized as a Canglang District Science Education Base.
