The Suzhou Chaozhou Guild Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Suzhou.

The Suzhou Chaozhou Guild Hall was originally established in Nanjing during the Ming Dynasty. In 1682, it was relocated to Beihao Lane (Beihao Lane outside Changmen in Wuxian County) in Beihao, Suzhou. Later, due to the small size of the site, in 1708, the 47th year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty, the Chaozhou Guild Hall was moved to Shangtang in Suzhou (west end of Yici Lane). In 1982, the guild hall was listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Suzhou. To this day, this guild hall has endured three centuries, witnessing the golden age of the Qing Dynasty, the loss of national territory, the striving of the people, and the peaceful rise of New China. The Suzhou Chaozhou Guild Hall is the best-preserved and most magnificent existing Chaozhou Guild Hall. With its solemn and elegant character, it showcases the distinctive culture of Chaozhou to visitors from all directions and tells the story of the continued brilliance of the Chaozhou merchants, one of the ancient and prominent merchant groups.

The main entrance of the guild hall faces north, with an exterior wall approximately 10 meters high and 15 meters wide. The two sides are shaped like reversed V’s, and the entire wall is clad with finely cut square bricks laid at an angle, giving it a refined yet bold appearance. The wall has three gates—one large and two small—with the central plaque inscribed “Chaozhou Guild Hall,” the left plaque reading “River Clear,” and the right plaque “Sea Calm.” Upon entering, there is a passageway, and the upper level houses a theater facing south. The stage protrudes forward, measuring about 6 meters square, with a hip-and-gable roof. Inside, there is an intricately carved octagonal caisson ceiling, pendant lotus columns, and finely detailed beams. The backstage on the north side consists of three rooms, 15 meters wide and 4 meters deep. The entire theater structure is integrated with the main entrance, forming a convex layout. Unfortunately, the main hall of the guild hall, the side rooms flanking the stage, and other auxiliary buildings no longer exist.
