Ancestral Temple of Feng Guifen

The Ancestral Temple of Feng Guifen is a cultural relic protection unit of Suzhou.

The Ancestral Temple of Feng Guifen was built in the first year of the Guangxu reign (1875). It consists of three routes and two courtyards. The temple gate is tall, flanked by eight-character walls. The main hall has a flush gable roof, spanning three bays at 13.3 meters wide and 14 meters deep, with a height of 9.2 meters. The beams and frames are flat-cut, with robust columns and beams. The front porch features a double-flipped wing, and the eaves are adorned with cross-bracket sets, topped with horse-hoof feet and upward-curving brackets. The column bases are made of blue stone drum pedestals. A 20-centimeter-high terrace is built outside the hall. Inside the hall stands a stele inscribed with “The Family Biography of Feng Jingting, Central Censor,” written and calligraphed by Zuo Zongtang. In front of the hall lies a spacious stone-paved courtyard, extending 26 meters deep, with corridors on both sides, each featuring eight bays. One hall on the west route is relatively ancient, dating earlier than the construction of the temple.
