Former Residence of Ye Shengtao

The former residence of Ye Shengtao is a protected cultural heritage site of Suzhou.

The former residence of Ye Shengtao is located at No. 5 Qingshi Lane, Gunxiufang, Suzhou. It was one of the residences of the writer Ye Shengtao in Suzhou.

In 1935, the writer purchased the property, made some minor renovations, and turned it into his own home. The single-story house has a T-shaped layout, featuring bluestone corridors and square pillars, with an open and spacious arrangement. The courtyard is adorned with hanging wisteria and meandering pathways. Many of Ye Shengtao’s works were written here. In late 1984, Ye Shengtao donated the residence to the state, intending it to serve as temporary lodging for writers from across the country visiting Suzhou to experience local life. In the winter of 1988, the editorial office of Suzhou Magazine moved in to operate here.
