Shen Jingsi's Residence is an old, multi-storied garden-style Western house located east of the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University. It is now a cultural relic protection unit of Suzhou. Mr. Shen Jingsi was a renowned gourmet and an expert in appraising calligraphy, paintings, and antiques. The design of the residence—with balconies on both upper and lower levels and windows on all sides—ensures excellent lighting and ventilation. Meanwhile, the triple-layered windows made up of gauze screens, glass panes, and shutters serve to block wind and sunlight, repel mosquitoes and flies, insulate against noise and heat, and maintain warmth in winter and coolness in summer.
