Baoying Lake

Baoying Lake is a national AAA-level tourist attraction, a national water conservancy scenic area, and a national wetland park.

Baoying Lake is located not far west of the Jinhua Highway in Yancheng. It is a shallow, enclosed lake. According to the Longqing County Annals from the Ming Dynasty: “Qingshui Lake lies to the south of the county, stretching twelve li from east to west and eighteen li from north to south. To the southwest it connects with Siguang Lake; Siguang Lake is fifteen li southwest of the county, thirty li long from east to west and ten li wide from north to south. To the south it meets Jinhu Lake, and to the west it connects with Safa Lake; Safa Lake is forty li southwest of the county, connecting to the Hengyang River in the west and flowing into Siguang Lake in the northeast; Jinhu Lake is sixty li south of the county, connected to the Grand Canal in the east and meeting Siguang Lake in the northwest. Qingshui, Siguang, Safa, and Jinhu Lakes converge into one, collectively known as Baoying Lake.” Due to geographical changes and administrative adjustments, today’s Baoying Lake connects to Gaoyou Lake to the south, borders Jinhu County to the west, and meets Baima Lake to the north, covering a total area of about 140 square kilometers, under the jurisdiction of both Baoying and Jinhu counties.
