Former Site of the Central Broadcasting Station of the Nationalist Government

The Former Site of the Central Broadcasting Station of the Nationalist Government is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

It is located at No. 33, Jiangdongmen North Street, Gulou District, Nanjing. The station was originally officially known as the "Broadcasting Wireless Station of the Central Executive Committee of the Kuomintang." In April 1927, after the Nationalist Government established its capital in Nanjing, KMT leaders deeply felt that "ideology needed urgent dissemination and propaganda could not wait." In February 1928, Chen Guofu and others proposed the establishment of a broadcasting station, which was approved. It began broadcasting on August 1, 1928, and became one of the KMT’s main propaganda tools.

It was the first modern communication tool established in the history of the Chinese nation, and its scale and power were then referred to as "the first in East Asia and the third in the world." The first director of the station was Xu Enzeng, and the second was Wu Dao Yi. On December 23, 2011, China's State Administration of Cultural Heritage announced the results of the “Top 100 New Discoveries” from the Third National Cultural Relics Survey, and the former site of the Nanjing Nationalist Government Central Broadcasting Station’s transmitting station was included. It now serves as the transmitting base for Jiangsu People's Broadcasting Station, featuring a transmitting equipment room, a power distribution room, and two transmitting towers, with the towers still broadcasting signals daily.

In May 2013, the State Council (State Council Document [2013] No. 13) designated the Former Site of the Central Broadcasting Station of the Nationalist Government as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
