The Yiyang Yunhu Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Yiyang Yunhu Scenic Area is located at the southern end of Hengwu South Road in Xizhu Town, Yiyang City. Originally known as the Hengshan Reservoir, Yunhu is a large national reservoir with a catchment area of 154 square kilometers. Surrounded by mountains and boasting clear water and beautiful natural scenery, it is a rare destination for tourism and vacation. The Hengshan Reservoir is located in the southwestern mountainous region of Yixing, Jiangsu. It was initially constructed in 1958 and completed in 1969. Serving primarily as a flood control, irrigation, and water supply facility, it also integrates aquaculture, power generation, and comprehensive utilization for tertiary industries. The reservoir has been designated as a fully ecological water source protection area for Yixing City. With a total storage capacity of 112 million cubic meters, a catchment area of 154.8 square kilometers, and a dam length of 4,090 meters, it features a three-bay spillway gate with each bay being 4.6 meters wide. The crest elevation of the spillway is 32 meters, and the designed discharge capacity is 485 cubic meters per second. There is one water inlet culvert on each side of the dam, supplying 250,000 cubic meters of water daily. The water quality consistently remains between Class I and Class II standards. The reservoir underwent reinforcement for hazard mitigation in 2001 and was completed in September 2003, meeting the safety standard for a once-in-2,000-years flood event.

The Hengshan Reservoir is formed by the edge mountains on the eastern side of Maoshan. The terrain of the reservoir area slopes from south to north. Covering a total area of over 1,070 hectares, the catchment area spans 154.8 square kilometers, with steep and high mountains in the upper reaches averaging over 500 meters in elevation. The area falls within the subtropical monsoon climate zone, characterized by pleasant, warm, and humid weather. The entire reservoir region is embraced by rolling hills and lush mountains, with tens of thousands of acres of shimmering blue waters, and a green coverage rate of over 98%. In the center of the reservoir lies Tongpen Island, covered in dense foliage and closely adjacent to the water. The air in the reservoir area is fresh and moist, making it a green gem bestowed upon Yixing — the Pottery Capital — and a “natural oxygen bar” for visitors seeking leisure and fitness.

The Hengshan Reservoir boasts an excellent ecological environment with abundant flora and fauna resources. The upstream section of the reservoir area consists of wetlands where many trees grow directly in the water, forming a unique natural landscape known as the “water forest.” Flanking the reservoir are 250,000 square meters of imported tall fescue lawns and nearly 100,000 camphor trees. Downstream, there is an eco-leisure park shaded by lush greenery, alive with birdsong and floral fragrance, along with numerous fitness and recreational facilities. Additionally, a 500-acre nursery and flower base cultivates countless rare tree species including various types of nanmu, michelia, manglietia, beech, Chinese tallow, maple, rosewood, and yew.
