Yixing’s Beautiful Linggu

The picturesque Linggu Scenic Area, known as the "Spirit Valley Heavenly Abode," is located in Hufu Town, 25 kilometers southwest of the city center. Covering an area of 0.13 square kilometers, the scenic area is said to be where the immortal maiden Ling, symbolizing a bountiful harvest of the five grains, once lived in seclusion—hence the name "Linggu Cave." The famous Tang Dynasty poet Lu Guimeng discovered this cave while exploring tea in Yixing and was deeply captivated by its naturally formed wonders. He then hired workers to excavate the cave, but the project was eventually abandoned due to its immense difficulty. To this day, his poetic lament remains: "Master Guimeng's ambition went unfulfilled; from the Tang and Song dynasties till now, the heart of the cave remains unpenetrated."

Spanning an area of over 8,100 square meters and extending more than 1,200 meters in length, the Linggu Cave features a maze of surreal, ever-changing landscapes of mesmerizing forms and mystical beauty. "The scenes of Linggu Cave enchant at every turn, just as Yangxian tea offers fragrance that lingers far and wide," perfectly captures the cave’s exceptional charm. The Linggu Cave is divided into six grand halls, each showcasing uniquely spectacular sights shaped by the natural forces of creation. These halls are named "Linggu Literary Garden," "Golden Toad Worshipping the Moon," "All Rivers Flowing to the Sea," "Jade Pavilion and Precious Hall," "Buddha Grotto and Immortal Cliff," and "Dragon Palace and Phoenix Manor." Additionally, there are over 40 other distinctive deep palace views, including magnificent heavenly pavilions, serene and elegant quiet rooms with latticed windows, resplendent jewel-like palaces, and snow-blanketed northern ice cities. These wondrous scenes blend seamlessly to create the dreamlike, otherworldly splendor of the Linggu Cave.

In 2004, Yixing David Sculpture Company partnered with Linggu Cave, investing 20 million yuan to integrate and further develop the cave’s resources. By combining sculpture art with the natural landscape, they brought art inspired by nature back to nature, adding even more beauty to the already stunning Spirit Valley Heavenly Abode. The revitalized Linggu Cave exudes an enchanting aura not only inside the cavern but also in the captivating scenery outside.

As visitors exit the cave entrance, they’ll find newly renovated, uniquely styled teahouses perfect for a rest stop, along with Yixing purple clay handicrafts and Yangxian tribute tea available for purchase. Stepping out of the scenic area, visitors are greeted by lush layers of bamboo forests and tea plantations. In the summer, cool breezes blow through the fresh air, and those still feeling adventurous can rent a quiet little bamboo hut nearby to enjoy rustic farmhouse dishes, sip the esteemed Yangxian tea, take a leisurely stroll through the bamboo groves, rest along floral paths, admire the tea plantation vistas, and savor the fragrant Yangxian tea—an experience truly delightful to both the eyes and the soul.

Transportation by Bus: Take Tourist Line 1 from Jinsanjiao Bus Station in downtown Yixing; or take a bus to Hufu Town, then transfer to a taxi or minibus to reach the site.

It borders Dingshu Town to the east, Changxing County of Zhejiang Province to the south, Zhangyu Town to the west, and Yixing Forest Farm to the north.
