The East China Baichang Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The East China Baichang Water Conservancy Scenic Area is located in Mawu, Dashan District, Zhangzhu Town, Yixing City, Jiangsu Province, and is known as the "Jewel of Mountain and Forest." It is the discovery site of the folk song "Carrying goods from the mountain, exhausting all savings to get to Daibu," which illustrates the once-booming trade of mountain produce here. It is also the origin of the water system management project involving Sanyan (the three streams: Yuan Tianjian, Tuan Shanjian, and Da Miao Jian).

East China Baichang nurtures the local cultural and water heritage, featuring lush mountains, clear waters, and scattered scenic spots. Especially notable are the historical mining relics, which have been transformed through land reclamation and greening—healing the scars on the mountains and turning the desolate into the miraculous. These areas have evolved into verdant landscapes, seamlessly blending with regionally distinctive cultural elements such as the Dashiba Ruins and picturesque rural villages. Together, they form a “masterpiece for the ages” that benefits the present and future generations, standing the test of time. This transformation showcases the vitality behind Yixing’s green development and industrial upgrading, serving as a microcosm of mining restoration and soil conservation efforts across Jiangsu and even the nation.

East China Baichang is a typical remnant of a former mining pit, covering a water area of 150 mu with a water storage capacity of 960,000 square meters. Stretching out before you is a shimmering expanse of azure water that glows brilliantly under the sun, where water meets sky, peaks reflect in the lake, and clouds cast their shadows on the surface. The interplay of mountain, cloud, and water creates a breathtaking ink-wash painting, truly a sight to behold. It’s no wonder people say, “Of all the lakes under heaven, none rival the stony seascape of Baichang.” Overlooking the “Stone Sea,” you’ll see dense forests of diverse shapes and sizes lining the valleys, while green mountain grass carpets the rocky cliffs. The stark contrast between rugged textures and soft hues, silver-white rocks and emerald foliage, creates a compelling blend of strength and gentleness, enhanced by the chirping of birds—a world unto itself.

Here, the lake water is deep blue and crystal clear, with rippling waves that shift in ever-changing beauty, exuding tranquility, elegance, and charm. No wonder it attracts many photographers, all of whom are left in awe of Baichang Lake. Among the sights is a magnificent hundred-meter-long corridor, which, when viewed from above, resembles a soaring dragon. Alongside structures such as the waterside pavilion and leisure villa cabins, these elements complement the lake and mountain scenery to form a spectacular natural panorama and a vibrant three-dimensional landscape painting. Like radiant gems and glistening pearls, these features are inlaid upon Baichang Lake, gently floating on the water’s surface as if transporting visitors into a fairyland.

In East China Baichang, spring brings green trees and blooming flowers; summer paints the peaks emerald with red azaleas dotting the hills; autumn offers azure skies and crimson foliage; and winter decorates the valleys with snow and icicles hanging high. Zhangzhu Town: Located in Yixing City, Zhangzhu Town was historically known as Taohuixi. Established in the fourth year of the Yongjia era during the Western Jin Dynasty (310 AD), it boasts a history of nearly 1,700 years.
