Huanglong Mountain Purple Clay Mine

The Huanglong Mountain Purple Clay Mine is a Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Huanglong Mountain Purple Clay Mine is located on Huanglong Mountain in Dingshu Town and consists of three pits: Dashuitan, Taixi Well, and No. 5 Well. In May 2009, the Yixing Municipal People's Government designated it as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit. On December 19, 2011, the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government listed it as part of the seventh batch of provincial-level cultural relics protection units.

Huanglong Mountain Purple Clay Mine - Dashuitan, located in the central square of Dingshu Town. The northern side of the Dashuitan road features a mountain slope where the veins of purple clay ore rock are visible. Dashuitan is said to be a Ming Dynasty clay pit, which left behind a water pond after mining. It covers an area of approximately 6,503 square meters.

Huanglong Mountain Purple Clay Mine - Taixi Well, located in Baidang Community, Dingshu Town, Yixing City. Taixi Well has a northern-facing shaft opening, with a tunnel width of 2.30 meters and height of 2.20 meters. To its west is a pond formed after clay mining.

Huanglong Mountain Purple Clay Mine – No. 5 Well, located in Baidang Community, Dingshu Town, Yixing City, 50 meters east of Taixi Well. Constructed in 1979, No. 5 Well faces east (15° north of east). It has two openings: one for personnel and one for transporting clay material. The surviving rail track is 0.66 meters wide.

Dingshu Town: Located in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province, Dingshu Town lies within the Yangtze River Delta Economic Development Zone. It borders Taihu Lake to the east and the foothills of the Tianmu Mountains to the west, covering an area of 73 square kilometers with a population of 140,000. It is part of Yixing’s urban area. In 2000, Jiangsu Province positioned Yixing as “China’s renowned pottery capital, an important industrial tourism city in Jiangsu Province, and a comprehensive commercial service hub in the border region of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui.”

Dingshu Town boasts picturesque landscapes with mountains and waters in harmony, rich cultural heritage, and is an important part of the famous Yangxian Scenic Area, making it one of the top tourist destinations in the Jiangnan region.
