Dongcang Bridge

Dongcang Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Yixing.

Dongcang Bridge, located on Dongfeng Lane (formerly known as "Dongyuli") in Yicheng Subdistrict, spans the Old City River. In January 1985, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site by the Yixing Municipal People's Government. In June 2006, it was further recognized as a provincial-level cultural heritage site by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government.

Dongcang Bridge was first built during the Baoying era of the Southern Song Dynasty (1225–1227), initiated by Zhao Ruma, the magistrate of the county. It was rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty, renovated in the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty, and damaged by Japanese forces during the Anti-Japanese War. It was not restored until after the victory of the war. In 1997, the Yixing Municipal People's Government carried out renovations on the bridge deck, railings, and other parts. Dongcang Bridge is a single-arch stone bridge, with its main structure still reflecting the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty. It is constructed from a mix of granite and bluestone, measuring 30 meters in length, 3.60 meters in width at the top, and 4.70 meters in width at the base. The bridge railing stands 0.75 meters high. It runs from east to west (with a 28° deviation to the south-southwest). The clear span is 8.30 meters, and the height of the arch is 5.50 meters. The southern slope has 28 steps, while the northern slope has 34, 12 of which were removed during the old city renovation project in 1997 and replaced with concrete steps. The slope angle is 16°. The southern end of the bridge connects to the Ming and Qing dynasty old street of Dongfeng Lane.

Yicheng Subdistrict: The Yicheng Subdistrict Office is the seat of the Yixing Municipal Government and serves as the center of the city’s politics, economy, and culture, as well as the window for Yixing’s opening up to the outside world. Covering an area of 40 square kilometers with a population of 240,000, it governs 30 community resident committees and 6 administrative villages. Divided by the Wuxi-Shanghai Canal, the area within the canal adjacent to the urban part falls under the jurisdiction of Yicheng Subdistrict, while the area outside the canal is governed by the Yixing Economic Development Zone. Within this zone, community resident committees, villages (groups), and enterprises originally belonging to Yicheng Town are entrusted to the management of the Yixing Economic Development Zone.
