Dapu Bridge

Dapu Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected by the Yixing Municipal Government.

Dapu Bridge, located at the northern end of Dapu Old Street in Dingshu Town, Yixing City, spans Dapu Port (also known as Loudu Port). In March 2003, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site by the Yixing Municipal People's Government. In June 2006, it was further recognized as a provincial-level cultural heritage site by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government.

Dapu Bridge was built in the fourth year of the Chenghua reign of the Ming Dynasty (1468), renovated in the fourth year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1665), and restored again during the Guangxu era. The bridge’s arch contains inscribed steles from both the Ming Chenghua and Qing Kangxi periods documenting its restorations. It is a single-arch stone bridge, measuring 27.2 meters in length, 2.7 meters in width at the middle span, and 3.1 meters at the abutments. Oriented north-south, the southern slope has 28 stone steps while the northern slope has 33. The bridge is constructed from a mix of bluestone, granite, and Yangshan stone. Its stone balusters are made of bluestone, with lotus-petal engravings on the tops, and the railings are long rectangular slabs of granite. The bridge’s side stones feature finely carved bas-relief lotus patterns. The clear span of the arch is 8 meters, with a rise of 3.8 meters.
