Futian Bridge

Futian Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected by Yixing City.

Futian Bridge, also known as the "Dongdang Bridge," is located at the eastern end of Fangzhuang Village, Xushe Town, Yixing City, spanning the Dong'an River. In November 1996, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site by the Yixing Municipal People's Government. In June 2006, it was listed as a provincial-level cultural heritage site by the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government.

Futian Bridge was built during the Ming Dynasty and rebuilt in the Xin Si year of the Kangxi reign in the Qing Dynasty (1701). A bridge inscription stone is embedded within the arch. It is a single-arch stone bridge oriented east-west, with 32 stone steps on the eastern side and 34 on the western side. The bridge is constructed of bluestone, and the steps are a mix of bluestone and granite. The bridge is 34.6 meters long, 3.95 meters wide at the center, 4.55 meters wide at the eastern abutment, and 4.30 meters wide at the western abutment. The clear span of the arch is 7.60 meters, and the height to the apex is 4.90 meters. Due to the width of the river, stone approach ramps were built on both the eastern and western ends of the bridge—the eastern ramp is 6.95 meters long and the western ramp is 8.50 meters long.

Xushe Town: This renowned town in the Jiangnan region is situated in the economically developed Yangtze River Delta, on the western outskirts of Yixing City—China’s pottery capital. It serves as a central hub for economy, culture, finance, transportation, and trade, and is recognized as a key central town in Jiangsu Province as well as a civilized town in Wuxi. The town covers a total area of 73.6 square kilometers, comprises 11 administrative villages and 1 community, and has a population of nearly 50,000.

1. Convenient land and water transportation. National Highway 104, the Nanjing-Hangzhou Expressway, and the Wuxi-Shanghai Canal run through the town for over 20 kilometers. The area includes an interchange for the Nanjing-Hangzhou Expressway and water-land docks.
