The Pan Family Ancestral Hall in Yixing

The Pan Family Ancestral Hall in Yixing is a municipal-level cultural heritage site.

The Pan Family Ancestral Hall is located to the west of the Dongpo Academy in Shushan Village, Dingshu Town. In May 2009, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site by the Yixing Municipal People’s Government.

The ancestral hall faces south (slightly southeast at 5°) and is a typical Republican-era building. It has three courtyards and a total width of five bays spanning 17 meters. The front courtyard of the first courtyard is 1.80 meters deep, the first courtyard itself is 8.10 meters deep, the main hall is 3.70 meters wide, the courtyard between the first and second courtyards is 5.40 meters deep, the second courtyard is 8.50 meters deep, the courtyard between the second and third courtyards is 3.30 meters deep, and the third courtyard is a two-story building that is 7.40 meters deep. Within the Pan family, Pan Zhiliang was a renowned professor at Southeast University, while Pan Xulun was the founder of Shanghai Lixin Accounting School and is known as the father of modern accounting in China. According to family members, both were involved in the construction of the ancestral hall. The hall is located east of the Dongpo Academy and west of the old Shushan Street, within the protected area of the Shushan Scenic Zone. Currently, the third courtyard building is severely damaged and is now a dangerous structure. The first and second courtyards have undergone extensive renovations.
