Taixin Kiln Site

The Taixin Kiln Site is a cultural heritage site protected by Yixing City.

The Taixin Kiln Site is located on Taishan Mountain in Lishu Community, Dingshu Town. In May 2009, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site by the Yixing Municipal People’s Government.

The Taixin Kiln Site sits atop Taishan Mountain and stretches from north to south. The exact date when it first began firing pottery is uncertain, but it stopped production in the late 1960s. The surviving accumulation spans about 1,000 square meters, mainly producing large items such as jars. The shard fragments have a body thickness of up to 2 centimeters, with thick glaze, predominantly in bean-green color. Currently, some parts of the accumulation have buildings constructed on them. To the east of the kiln site is the residential area of Hongqi Ceramics Factory, to the south is Taishan Village, and to the west is Dongxian North Road. To the east of the Taixin Kiln Site lies an old kiln. Since both kilns were built on the same foundation, the new kiln was constructed after the old one ceased operations. The accumulation contains numerous thick shards of large vessels, featuring a rich glaze, characteristic of large-sized Jun-glazed pottery, which is distinctly different from the pottery of the Shushan Kiln. To the west of the Taixin Kiln Site is Jingyun Chan Temple, which is recorded in both the old Yixing County Annals and related historical materials.
