Tongzi Bridge

Tongzi Bridge is a cultural relics protection unit of Yixing City.

Tongzi Bridge is located in Tongzi Natural Village, Batang Village, Yangxiang Town, Yixing City (in Tongfang East, at the end of the small road opposite Dongzhou Cable). In May 2009, the Yixing Municipal People's Government designated it as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit.

Constructed during the Qing Dynasty's Kangxi era, Tongzi Bridge is a single-arch stone bridge oriented east-west (25° northwest of west) and built from bluestone. The total length of the bridge is 14.50 meters, with a deck length of 1.25 meters, a central width of 2.96 meters, and a slope of 15 degrees. The pillow stones are 3.15 meters long, 0.23 meters wide, and 0.18 meters thick, spaced 2.75 meters apart, with the eastern abutment being 3.60 meters wide. The clear span is 4.30 meters, the rise is 3 meters, and the height from the bridge bottom to the water surface is 3.60 meters. The arch stones are 0.18 meters thick, and the decorative arch stones are 0.12 meters thick. The bridge inscription reads "Tongzi Bridge." The inscription stone is 1.25 meters long, 0.48 meters wide, and 0.22 meters thick. On the east side of the bridge stands a stele commemorating the reconstruction of Tongzi Bridge, measuring 1.60 meters long, 0.715 meters wide, and 0.31 meters thick. The stele is inscribed with the title “Record of the Reconstruction of Tongzi Bridge,” which includes the text: “...Reconstructed in the 38th year of Kangxi...” and is dated “Early summer, the first auspicious day of the 7th year of Daoguang.”
