Xifang Bridge

Xifang Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Yixing.

Xifang Bridge is located in Xifangqiao Group, Hongta Village, Gaocheng Town. In May 2009, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site by the Yixing Municipal People's Government.

Xifang Bridge was built in the 26th year of the Jiajing reign during the Ming Dynasty (1547). It is a single-arch stone beam bridge, with most of its structure made from bluestone, except for the upper and lower bearing stones, pillars, tread stones, and bridge deck, which are granite. Small amounts of Yangshan stone can be found near the bridge abutments. The bridge runs in an east-west direction (10° north of west). The total length of the bridge is 10.20 meters, the bridge deck is 3.55 meters long, and the middle width is 1.68 meters. The bridge deck is composed of three granite slabs, each 0.55 meters wide. The clear span is 2.70 meters, and the height from the bottom of the bridge to the lower bearing stone is 2.30 meters. The bridge abutment is 2.70 meters wide, with a ramp length of 3.30 meters and a slope of 6°. The bearing stones are 0.40 meters wide and 0.30 meters high. On the south side of the bridge is a stele inscribed with the Xifang Bridge inscription, documenting the donation by the Jiang family for the bridge’s construction, dated the 26th year of the Jiajing reign in the Ming Dynasty.
