Yangtang Bridge

Yangtang Bridge is a cultural relics protection unit of Yixing City.

Yangtang Bridge is located at the northeastern end of Xiyuan Village, Xinzhuang Subdistrict, Yixing City (go a little past the Biochemical Factory stop on Bus No. 14, then walk to the end of the right-side village). In May 2009, the Yixing Municipal People's Government designated it as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit.

Constructed during the Qing Dynasty, Yangtang Bridge is a single-arch stone bridge oriented east-west (30° northwest) and built from bluestone. The bridge deck is 1.10 meters long and 2.65 meters wide. The western slope is 5 meters long with a 13° incline, and the lower abutment is 3.08 meters wide. The eastern slope is 6 meters long, with the lower abutment 3.10 meters wide. The pillow stones are 3.20 meters long, 0.28 meters wide, and 0.22 meters thick, spaced 2.80 meters apart. The clear span is 3.70 meters, the rise is 2.30 meters, and the height from the bridge bottom to the water surface is 3 meters. The arch stones are 0.18 meters thick, and the decorative arch stones are 0.09 meters thick. The bridge inscription reads “Yangtang Bridge.” The inscription stone is 1.10 meters long, 0.40 meters wide, and 0.23 meters thick.

Xinzhuang Subdistrict: Xinzhuang Subdistrict is located in the eastern part of Yixing City. It covers an area of 44 square kilometers and has a population of 38,000. The seat of the subdistrict government is at Zhenze Road, Xinzhuang, situated 11 kilometers east of the municipal government headquarters. It borders Taihu Lake to the east, faces Dingshu Town to the south, neighbors Yicheng Subdistrict to the west, and adjoins Zhoutie Town to the north. It administers 11 villages—Jiaodu, Hexin, Hongxiang, Xinzhuang, Suyang, Dong?, Bi, Yi, Ma, Zhu, and Fu—as well as two community committees: Zhenze and Nanyang.
