Nan Gangyao Ruins

The Nan Gangyao Ruins are a protected cultural heritage site of Yixing City.

The Nan Gangyao Ruins are located at the eastern foot of Nanshan Mountain in Chengli Village, Dingshu Town, Yixing City. In January 1985, they were designated as a county-level cultural heritage site by the Yixing County People's Government.

The Nan Gangyao kiln was built during the Southern Song Dynasty and continued to operate until the Qing Dynasty. A local legend says, “Nan Gangyao came before Dingshu Town.” The structure is a dragon kiln, facing east at the head and west at the tail, built along the eastern foot of Nanshan Mountain, with a length of about 50 meters. Based on the stratified remains at the site, the lower layers date back to the Song Dynasty and mainly consist of daily-use pottery such as ceramic jars (commonly known as "Han bottles"). The upper layers are from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, primarily containing coarse pottery items such as jars, pots, and basins.
