Huaxi Bridge

Huaxi Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected by the Yixing Municipal Government.

Huaxi Bridge is located in Tangdu Village, Dingshu Town, Yixing City, on the west side of the Nanjing-Hangzhou Highway. In 1985, it was designated as a county-level cultural heritage site by the Yixing County People's Government.

Originally a wooden bridge, Huaxi Bridge was rebuilt with stone in the 44th year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1705), becoming an arched stone bridge. It underwent renovations during the Daoguang, Xianfeng, and Tongzhi eras. Historically, the scenery along the river at Huaxi Bridge was picturesque, with wisteria trees lining both banks. When spring arrived and flowers bloomed, the shimmering water and floral reflections created a stunning view known as the “Huaxi Flower Waves,” which was one of the ancient Ten Scenic Spots of Yixing.

Huaxi Bridge is a three-arch stone bridge oriented from north to south, constructed with a mix of bluestone and granite. It has a total length of 34.94 meters, a central width of 4 meters, and an approach width of 5.15 meters. The central arch has a clear span of 8.55 meters and a rise of 4.75 meters; the secondary arches have a clear span of 4.50 meters and a rise of 2.45 meters. On both sides of the central arch are carved stone couplets in regular script. The inscription on the west side reads: “Two hundred years of steadfast stone renewed, stars entwine the Mulberry Tree constellation; dozens of miles of pure springs emerge, their source rooted in enduring mulberry fields.” The east side reads: “A painted scroll unfolds where waves veil floral gleams, moonlight mirrored in the ripples; a range of spiritual peaks cradles the road, boats set forth from Willow Harbor down the Jingxi River.”
