Guijing Bridge

Guijing Bridge is a cultural heritage site protected by Yixing City.

Guijing Bridge is located in Gujing Old Street, Xinjie Town, Yixing City. In November 1996, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site by the Yixing Municipal People's Government.

According to the "Record of the Reconstruction of Guijing Bridge" from the 54th year of the Qianlong reign in the Qing Dynasty (1789), the bridge was originally built during the Jian'an period of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It was initially a wooden bridge, which was later replaced with stone during the Southern Tang Dynasty. It has been repaired many times throughout subsequent dynasties. During the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty, it was destroyed again in war, and was rebuilt in the 13th year of the Tongzhi reign (1874). The Guijing River historically served as a vital transportation route connecting Yicheng to Zhangzhu, bustling with continuous boat traffic. Today, the architecture at both ends of the bridge still retains the old street style from the Ming and Qing periods. Five Qing Dynasty steles documenting the bridge’s repairs are preserved under the southern bridge tower.

Guijing Bridge is a single-arch stone bridge oriented from north to south (with a 5° deviation to the northeast). The southern slope has 16 stone steps, while the northern slope has 15. It is constructed with a mix of bluestone and granite, featuring long rectangular bluestone railings and lotus-petal-patterned balusters. The bridge is 17.18 meters long, with a deck length of 0.95 meters, a central width of 3.50 meters, and an approach width of 4.05 meters. The arch span is 8.10 meters, with a rise of 4.60 meters. The northern slope is 7.50 meters long, with an approach width of 3.90 meters, a slope gradient of 9°, a flat approach length of 3.70 meters, and a width at the flat approach of 3.30 meters.

Environmental Technology Park (Xinjie Subdistrict): In 2007, Xinjie Town was dissolved, and its former jurisdictional area was merged with the two neighborhood committees—Lüyuan and Wenchang—managed by Yicheng Subdistrict, as well as the five village committees of Nanhé, Tongfēng, Nányuè, Méi, and Xièqiáo, to form Xinjie Subdistrict in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province.

The five village committees of Yuan, Xieqiao, and others were merged to establish Xinjie Subdistrict.

Located in the central part of Yixing City, it borders Yicheng Town to the east, Zhangzhu Town to the south, Xushè Town and Jīngtáng Town to the west, and X? to the north. It covers an area of 9 square kilometers and has a permanent population of 29,000.
