The Dacheng Ancient Bridge Group

The Dacheng Ancient Bridge Group is a cultural relics protection unit of Yixing City.

The Dacheng Ancient Bridge Group is located between Wangpo Village and Shangtang Village in Xinzhuang Town, Yixing City, all spanning the Li River. It consists of three arch bridges: Wangpo, Changchun, and Shangtang. In November 1996, the Yixing Municipal People's Government designated it as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit.

Wangpo Bridge is located in Wangpo Village, Xinzhuang Town. Originally built in the seventh year of the Zhiyuan era during the Yuan Dynasty (1347), it is said to have been donated by a female servant surnamed Wang using her lifetime earnings from working as a helper. Rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty, it is a single-arch stone bridge oriented east-west, with 24 stone steps on each side. The base and arch stones are made of bluestone, while the bridge deck is a mix of Yangshan stone and bluestone. The bridge is 28.45 meters long, 3.40 meters wide at the center, and 4.73 meters wide at the abutments. The clear span of the arch is 6.50 meters, with a rise of 4.35 meters.

Changchun Bridge is located about one kilometer north of Wangpo Village, Xinzhuang Town. The original bridge was dismantled by the Japanese army during the War of Resistance, and it was rebuilt in 1946. It is a single-arch stone bridge oriented east-west, with 22 stone steps on each side, constructed with bluestone stacking and granite arch stones. The bridge is 20.72 meters long, 3.25 meters wide at the center, and 3.75 meters wide at the abutments. The clear span of the arch is 6.40 meters, with a rise of 4.20 meters.

Shangtang Bridge is located in Shangtang Village, Xinzhuang Town. Originally built during the JingTai era of the Ming Dynasty, it is a single-arch stone bridge oriented east-west, with 33 stone steps on the eastern side and 36 on the western side, constructed with bluestone stacking. The bridge is 29.44 meters long, 3.15 meters wide at the center, and 4.10 meters wide at the abutments. The clear span of the arch is 7.30 meters, with a rise of 4.70 meters.

Xinzhuang Subdistrict: Xinzhuang Subdistrict is located in the eastern part of Yixing City. It covers an area of 44 square kilometers with a population of 38,000. The town government is located on Zhenze Road, Xinzhuang, 11 kilometers east of the municipal government seat. It borders Taihu Lake to the east, Dingshu Town to the south, Yicheng Subdistrict to the west, and Zhoutie Town to the north. It administers 11 villages—Jiaodu, Hexin, Hongxiang, Xinzhuang, Suyang, Dongyu, Xiayu, Shijia, Maqiao, Fuxi, and Yaxin—and two community neighborhood committees: Zhenze and Nanyang.
