The Former Residence of the Ma Family

The Former Residence of the Ma Family, located in Qingbai Village, Jintang Town, Yixing City, was designated as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit by the Yixing Municipal People's Government in March 2003.

The Former Residence of the Ma Family was built during the Qing Dynasty. It faces south and is arranged along a north-south axis, spanning five bays in width and consisting of four courtyards in depth, with a total width of 17.30 meters and a depth of 55.30 meters. Each courtyard is separated by high walls that are 6 meters tall and features exquisitely carved brick gateways. The courtyards are paved with bluestone slabs and adorned with stone flower stands. To the west lies a service alley that leads directly to the rear courtyard. Currently, the first and second courtyards are relatively well-preserved, the third courtyard retains three of its two-story sections, while the fourth courtyard’s two-story structure has collapsed. However, the four brick-carved gateways remain in excellent condition.
