The Lu Family Chastity Archway

The Lu Family Chastity Archway is located in Xudu Village, Zhoutie Town. In May 2009, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit by the Yixing Municipal People's Government.

The Lu Family Chastity Archway, built in the 53rd year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1788), is made of bluestone. It stands 3.50 meters tall (currently partially collapsed), is 2.96 meters wide, and faces west (17° northwest). The top horizontal beam of the archway is inscribed with phrases such as “Erected in Honor of Madam Lu, Wife of Scholar Jiang Dingjiu” and “The 53rd Year of the Qianlong Reign, Great Qing.” It also features stone carvings including dragons playing with a pearl and lions with embroidered balls. The pillars on both sides bear the couplet: “Raising the orphaned child within a hundred days, continuing the virtues for a thousand autumns.” The upper part of the archway is now damaged, and scattered stone components can be found around it.

It is close to Suzhou, Wuxi, and Changzhou, and adjacent to the Suyi Expressway to the west, providing just a one-and-a-half-hour drive to Shanghai, Nanjing, and Hangzhou. The town covers a total area of 73.2 square kilometers, has a population of 58,800, and includes 14 village committees, 2 neighborhood committees, and over 400 industrial enterprises.
