Former Residence of the Ge Family

The Former Residence of the Ge Family is located at No. 6, Beizhongzhuang Village, Huadu Residential Area, Dingshu Town. In May 2009, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site by the Yixing Municipal People's Government.

Built during the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty, the Former Residence of the Ge Family faces south (slightly southwest at 15°) and consists of three courtyards. It spans a total width of eight bays, measuring 24.80 meters, and has a depth of 39 meters. The first and second courtyards are single-story buildings, while the third courtyard features a two-story structure. The first courtyard has a depth of 8.20 meters, with the front courtyard measuring 1.90 meters in depth, and the courtyard between the first and second courtyards being 4.50 meters deep. The second courtyard is 10.50 meters deep, and the courtyard between the second and third courtyards is 3.50 meters deep. The third courtyard is eight bays wide, with a depth of 9.60 meters, and extends 0.60 meters to the east—this section was formerly known as the "Jushui Hall." To the east of the third courtyard, there is an auxiliary building consisting of three rooms, with a width of 14 meters and a depth of 6.10 meters, and the courtyard of the auxiliary building is 2.60 meters deep. The entire structure is built upon a foundation of bluestone slabs, each slab measuring 1.05 meters in length and 0.33 meters in width.
