Introduction Situated in the western part of Xugou Town and commonly referred to as Xishi, this area is surrounded by sea on three sides and the land on one, forming an ancient fishing village. It features both small, gentle beaches perfect for swimming and large muddy flats and harbors frequented by fishing boats. The harbor is always alive with the coming and going of fishing vessels. Some boats moored in the port are busy unloading their haul, hoisting baskets of freshly caught seafood onto the shore; others are preparing for their next trip out to sea, taking on fuel and fresh water. During major festivals, fishing boats are adorned with colorful flags fluttering in the wind, resembling a vibrant burst of spring blossoms. The development of the commodity economy has shifted the village’s once sole focus on fishing, with many locals now engaged in the tourism service industry, opening seafood restaurants in town. These eateries highlight the distinctive character of fisherfolk life by serving seafood boiled in clear broth, preserving its original flavors — a delicious specialty rarely found in city hotels or restaurants.
