The Yuntai Mountain Anti-Japanese Stone Carvings are a Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Yuntai Mountain Anti-Japanese Stone Carvings (Provincial Level)

Introduction:

Located in the Yuntai Mountain area of Lianyungang City, the site includes seven anti-Japanese stone carvings at Wanshou Mountain, Feilai Stone, Dongzou Mountain, Weiping Mountain, Donglei, Deer Farm, and Turan Cave. The carvings authentically reflect the tragic history of Chinese defenders during the Lianyungang Defense Battle in the early stages of the War of Resistance against Japan. Inscriptions such as “Defend our mountains…”, “Protect our territory and revive China”, “As long as the people’s will lives on, the nation will not perish”, “Mist shrouds Yuntai Mountain — this was a major battlefield of the anti-Japanese war. After a hundred days of fighting, we temporarily withdraw, but it’s a pity the Japanese invaders were not all wiped out” are preserved along with accompanying inscriptions. Among them, the cliff inscription on Dongshan in Nancheng is particularly notable for its clear carving of the date, figures, and names, making it a valuable and vivid patriotic educational resource. It was designated as part of the fifth group of Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units in 2002.

Protected Area:

①Wanshou Mountain Anti-Japanese Stone Carvings: The protected area extends 100 meters east from the carvings; south to Sucheng Reservoir; west to the Immortal’s House stone carvings; and north to the summit of Wanshou Mountain.

②Feilai Stone Anti-Japanese Stone Carvings: South to the road at Daweijian Mountain; east, west, and north each extending 20 meters.

③Dongzou Mountain Anti-Japanese Stone Carvings: Based at the southeast-facing air-raid shelter entrance on Dongzou Mountain, extending 100 meters southeast, 100 meters southwest to the rear eaves wall of Zhao Qingzhu’s residence, 100 meters northwest, and 80 meters northeast.

④Weiping Mountain Anti-Japanese Stone Carvings: A protected zone of 50 meters in all directions around the inscriptions.

⑤Donglei Anti-Japanese Inscriptions: Northeast 20 meters behind the Earth Temple; southeast to the Longtan Gully of the reservoir; southwest 50 meters beyond Longtan Gully; northwest 30 meters to the back valley of the engraved mountain cliff.

⑥Deer Farm Anti-Japanese Stone Carvings: East and south to the forest fire prevention path; west and north extending 50 meters outward.

⑦Turan Cave Anti-Japanese Inscriptions: Based at the cave entrance; east 20 meters up to the mountain top above the entrance; south extending 30 meters outward; west to the east wall of Yuhuang Palace; north extending 30 meters outward.
