Little Penglai

Little Penglai is located behind the main hall of Yanfu Temple. Passing through the cool shade of the Golden-and-Jade Bamboo Grove, you will see three large ancient seal script characters carved into the stone cliff: “小蓬莱” (Little Penglai), each measuring 30 centimeters in diameter. The strokes are vigorous, exhibiting a sharpness and elegance akin to iron wires and silver hooks. In Li Ruzhen’s novel *Flowers in the Mirror*, Little Penglai is described as the essential pathway to heaven—both Tang Ao and the Fairy of a Hundred Flowers, Tang Guichen, ascended to immortality from here.
