Sucheng Faxi Temple

Sucheng Faxi Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Sucheng Faxi Temple was built during the Han Dynasty. It is said that some monks and followers from the ancient Kingdom of Kangju in Central Asia practiced Buddhism here. After they passed away (died), they were buried locally, and the Jiu Feng Stone Pagoda was specially erected for them. During the Xianchun era of the Song Dynasty (around 1270), a highly respected monk named Jiu Feng Monk emerged at the temple, and gradually the Zen temple came to be known as Jiu Feng Zen Temple. By the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (around 1600), even ordinary monks at the temple were referred to as Jiu Feng Monks. Jiu Feng became synonymous with Faxi Temple and a source of its prestige. During the Anti-Japanese War, Faxi Temple was bombed into ruins by Japanese invaders. In 1958, when the Sucheng Reservoir was constructed, the ruins were submerged underwater.
