Huangwo Scenic Area

Huangwo Scenic Area is located at Xingbao on the eastern side of the New Eurasian Continental Bridge, three kilometers southeast of Lianyungang Port. It lies to the west of the Yuntai Mountain Range, faces the Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant to the south, and borders the Yellow Sea to the east. Surrounded by mountains on three sides and the sea on one, it is a national forest park and a natural ecological scenic area. The wide Lian-Gao Coastal Highway runs through the scenic area, connecting it to the Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant and National Highway 310. With 12 trains arriving at the port daily and Bus Route 31 providing direct access to the scenic area, transportation is highly convenient.

Huangwo Scenic Area is the only scenic spot in Jiangsu Province that combines mountain and sea landscapes, and it is also an important part of the Yuntai Mountain Scenic Area, a national-level attraction. The mountains here are renowned for their rare, unique, ancient, peculiar, and beautiful natural features. "Ancient" refers to its fame dating back thousands of years, making it a historically significant mountain. "Rare" highlights the precious and scarce flora and fauna, including over 160 species of warm-temperate and subtropical woody and vine plants, as well as the largest natural catalpa forest in the Yuntai Mountain Range. "Unique" describes the startlingly upright peaks that inspire awe in visitors. "Peculiar" refers to the oddly shaped rocks. Nature’s masterful craftsmanship has sculpted spectacular peaks and cliffs, each taking on different forms when viewed from various angles—some resembling camels, golden turtles, immortal heads, immortal ears, elephant trunks, fans, palaces, or tiger stripes, each with its own distinctive charm. "Beautiful" refers to the graceful and picturesque landscape, with main attractions including Wilderness Recreation, High Mountains and Flowing Waters, and Apricot Blossoms Herald Spring. The mountains are as exquisite as giant, naturally formed potted landscapes; the water is clear and shimmering, reflecting the green hills; the clouds are delicate, with light mist adding an air of mystery.

The scenic area features serene valleys, dense forests, and lush greenery as vibrant as emeralds, with ancient trees towering overhead. These centuries-old trees, having withstood countless storms and the passage of time, remain lush and vigorous. The forest is home to a rich variety of tree species, including many rare and precious ones that are truly breathtaking. Being surrounded by such natural beauty feels like wandering through a mystical primeval paradise. Far from the noise and pollution of the city, breathing in the fresh, crisp air of nature is truly refreshing and invigorating.

The scenic area boasts beautiful landscapes of mountains, waters, forests, and rocks, offering a primitive, rustic, and tranquil atmosphere. With cool and comfortable temperatures year-round, it presents ever-changing plant and animal scenes—such as azaleas blooming in spring, red maples greeting autumn, birds chirping in chorus, and the roars of tigers and monkeys—each showcasing unique charm. Sunrise over the sea of trees, crescent moons above bamboo groves, vast yet serene, are truly captivating. The area is densely packed with peaks and steep rocks, with deep valleys and secluded streams, clear waters, lush forests, and mist-shrouded vistas. It combines grandeur, peculiarity, beauty, serenity, and wilderness, integrating peaks, valleys, ravines, forests, and waters. There are nearly 3,000 towering rock pillars, many of which are covered with greenery at their summits and cliffs. Countless stone peaks resemble humans, animals, tools, or objects. Among the valleys, streams babble, canyons run deep, and trees thrive in dense shade. Known as the “Mysterious Virgin Land of the East,” it is also home to precious bird species such as the Lady Amherst’s pheasant, Reeves’s pheasant, yellow-legged buttonquail, golden pheasant, hill myna, oriole, and azalea pheasant, which freely fly amid the forests, mountains, and sea.

The coastline features rugged, undulating rocks, with charming bays around every corner. With clear waters and blue skies, visitors can enjoy the sea breeze, watch the tides rise and fall, and listen to seagulls calling. The beach has fine sand, gentle slopes, broad shores, and beautiful reefs. At the center of the bathing area is a floating stage. As night falls, fishing boats glow with lights, creating a colorful scene accompanied by soft music and dancing. When you’re in the mood, you can even step up to the stage for a karaoke performance.

Explore the under-construction nuclear power plant and witness the mysteries of nuclear energy. Go fishing on Yangshan Island and enjoy the solitary pleasure of a lone fisherman in his boat. In spring, appreciate the flowers and enjoy outings; in summer, cool off and swim; in autumn, go sea fishing and admire the moon; in winter, hike the mountains and view the snow... Visit the port, gaze at the sea, watch the sunrise, observe the nuclear power plant, experience local fishing life, and savor seafood—there’s no reason not to visit Huangwo. The Gaogongdao Scenic Area, known for its “layered catalpa forests and surging silver tides,” is situated on the picturesque eastern foothills of Yuntai Mountain, along the coast of the Yellow Sea, where mountain and sea views blend seamlessly. The beach offers golden sands and rolling blue waves; the mountains feature lush catalpa forests, babbling streams, and pleasant scenery; the simple local customs and traditional mountain dwellings make you feel as if you’ve entered a paradise on earth.
