Chaoyang Site

The Chaoyang Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Jiangsu Province.

The Chaoyang Site is located on the northwest side of Chaoyang Reservoir in Xin County Neighborhood Committee, Chaoyang Subdistrict, Lianyun District, Lianyungang City, covering an area of approximately 3,200 square meters. The Neolithic deposits at the Chaoyang Site are thick, with abundant artifacts. Two excavations were carried out in 1976 and 1994. The upper layer features mostly sand-tempered red pottery, with common vessel forms including tripods, basins, and jars. The decorations are predominantly fingernail-impressed patterns and appliqué ridges, while the tripod feet are mainly cylindrical or flat-chisel shaped. The lower layer includes bird-head-shaped tripod feet and thin, eggshell-like black pottery, which are typical of the Longshan Culture. In addition, there are also fragments of clay red pottery from the Dawenkou Culture. The Chaoyang Site is one of the Neolithic sites in Jiangsu Province closest to the coastline and holds significant value for studying the geographic distribution of the Longshan Culture and the changes in the coastline of Lianyungang City. It was designated as one of the first batch of cultural heritage protection units in Lianyungang City in 1982, and in 2011 it was listed as part of the seventh batch of cultural heritage protection units in Jiangsu Province.

Protected Area:

The eastern boundary is a small path, the western boundary extends to a stream, the southern boundary reaches the Water Specialized Team, and the northern boundary is the edge of the terrace.

Chaoyang Subdistrict: Administrative division adjustment in 2013: The former Chaoyang Town was abolished, and Chaoyang Subdistrict Office was established. After the adjustment, the administrative area covers 31.4 square kilometers, with a total population of 20,000. It administers two neighborhood committees—Xin County and Chao Dong—and seven village committees—Xi Zhuang, Liu Xiang, Han Li, Zhang Zhuang, Yin Song, Ma Shan, and Sha Ji.

Chaoyang Town of Lianyungang Economic and Technological Development Zone is located at the northern foot of Huaguo Mountain, a national AAAA-level scenic area.
