Laojun Well is a cultural relic protection unit of Lianyungang District.

Laojun Well (Ming Dynasty)

The ancient well of Laojun Hall is located within the yard of Yunshan Central Kindergarten in Laojun Hall Village, Yunshan Subdistrict, Lianyungang District. It lies 300 meters south of Yun Su Highway, borders a mountain stream to the west connecting to the barracks of the infantry battalion of the Lianyungang Garrison, faces Yunshan Reservoir to the southeast, and backs onto Daoya Mountain.

The well is 8 meters deep, with an inner diameter of 40 cm and an outer diameter of 65 cm. The mouth of the well is 25 cm high and 13 cm wide. It served as an ancillary facility of Laojun Hall. Laojun Hall was a temple built during the Ming Dynasty. It was destroyed during World War II and was later converted into Laojun Hall Primary School in the 1960s. Two ginkgo trees from the Ming era and a stone inscription from the Eastern Taoist Courtyard still remain. Cui Yingjie’s *Yuntai Mountain Records* states: “The Northern Laojun Hall is situated north of Wanjin Lake, at the foot of Worichang Mountain. It is serene, secluded, and exquisitely beautiful, surrounded by lush woods, making it the foremost fairyland by the lake.”

Yunshan Subdistrict is located at the southern foot of Beiyuntai Mountain. It borders the Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant to the east, connects to Xingangcheng Avenue to the west, neighbors the Municipal Development Zone to the south, stretches 11 kilometers from east to west in a strip-like shape, and covers an area of 19.36 square kilometers. The subdistrict administers five administrative villages: Pingshan, Laojun Hall, Lizhuang, Baiguo Tree, and Huangya. The offices of the Subdistrict Party Working Committee and the Subdistrict People’s Government are located in Lizhuang. The subdistrict has a total of 2,562 households and 8,344 residents, including 5,630 agricultural population.
