The Zhu Family Residence on Haixia Lane is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Lianyungang.

The Zhu Family Residence on Haixia Lane

It is located at No. 6, Haixia Lane, Lianyun Subdistrict Office, Lianyungang District, Lianyungang City. This Republican-era building was originally a private villa built by the Zhu family during the early phase of Lianyungang Port construction. It includes both an eastern and a western section: the eastern residence is a standalone villa, with an east-west depth of 12.1 meters and a north-south width of 16.2 meters; the western residence is a courtyard complex, with an east-west depth of 16.6 meters, a north-south width of 19.5 meters, a height of 5 meters, and a total floor area of 520 square meters. The entire structure is built with a combination of stone and wood, featuring wooden ceilings and flooring indoors. This building provides significant physical evidence for the study of Republican-era architecture in Lianyungang.

It was designated as part of the fourth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection sites in Lianyungang in 2010.

Lianyun Subdistrict: Lianyun Subdistrict Office is situated at Lianyungang Port. Originally named Laoyao, it began to be called Lianyun after 1933 (the 22nd year of the Republic of China), derived from the first characters of “Lian Island” (连岛) and “Yuntai Mountain” (云台山), symbolizing the bustling maritime trade with the meaning of “civilian sails and warships gathering in the clouds, and maritime commerce flourishing.” The Longhai and Lanxin railways, vital arteries of China’s east-west transportation network, extend westward from here, making Lianyun Subdistrict the eastern terminus of the New Eurasian Land Bridge. In 2003, with the approval of the Jiangsu Provincial Government, the former Lianyungang Town was abolished and Lianyun Subdistrict was established. In February 2005, the municipal government approved the merger with the former Ta’an Subdistrict to form the new Lianyun Subdistrict.
