Dacheng Hall of Rugao Confucius Temple

Dacheng Hall of Rugao Confucius Temple is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The former site of Rugao Confucius Temple is located in the southeastern corner of Rugao City, Jiangsu Province. Currently, only the Dacheng Hall remains. The Dacheng Hall has a width of five bays and a depth of three bays, with an overhanging eave on the southern façade that creates a double-eave-like effect. It is identified as a Ming Dynasty structure and was designated as a Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 1982. The overall framework of the current Dacheng Hall is well preserved, especially the painted designs on the beams, which are clearly visible. The motifs alone include furniture such as "tables, chairs, and vases"; fabrics such as "wrapped brocade and satin"; animals such as "moving dragons and cranes," among others. The patterns are exquisite and the postures vivid, belonging to the category of Southern Qing Dynasty "Suzhou-style paintings," while also featuring local characteristics. Based on the current condition of the Dacheng Hall, it is believed to be an early Qing Dynasty building, possibly incorporating some Ming Dynasty components. As a result, it exhibits architectural features from the late Ming and early Qing periods. The Dacheng Hall of Rugao Confucius Temple is a rare historical architectural heritage, possessing significant historical, cultural, scientific, and artistic value.
