Silk Tapestry Art Museum

The Rugao City Silk Tapestry Art Museum is one of the founding institutions of China’s silk tapestry industry. Since 1981, the museum has collaborated with the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts (now the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University) to develop modern artistic wall hangings. After two decades of production and exploration, it has become the only manufacturer in China capable of mass-producing silk tapestries of the highest quality. The products made by this museum have had a significant impact both domestically and internationally, including: two tapestries gifted by the central government to the United Nations; three tapestries collected by renowned museums in the United States; and two tapestries hung in the state guesthouse at Zhongnanhai, the central government compound. These tapestries have been widely used in China’s overseas embassies and consulates, as well as in royal palaces and government institutions of various countries. They have also been collected by notable figures such as – [a national leader], former U.S. President Bill Clinton, former Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa, Hong Kong businessman Li Ka-shing, Armand Hammer, renowned painter Zao Wou-ki, and celebrated Chinese-American artist Ding Shaoguang. The museum has partnered with over 100 renowned painters and companies from around the world to develop tapestries and high-end artistic carpets, which are sold in foreign galleries and carpet companies, receiving widespread acclaim and praise from collectors and users alike.
