Longyou Lake Scenic Area

Longyou Lake Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Longyou Lake Business Scenic Area is located in the Rudong Science and Technology City in the southeast of the main urban area of Rugao City. It borders the S334 provincial road connection to the east, Dingmo Highway to the south, Longyou River to the west, and Chengnan Avenue to the north. The lake covers an area of 1,250 mu, with two artificial islands in the center — the larger one spanning 60 mu and the smaller one 36 mu. The Longyou Lake Business Area is dedicated to becoming a large-scale urban complex integrating modern business, headquarters economy, tourism, leisure vacation, and high-end residential functions. The main body of Longyou Lake was formed by targeted earth extraction during the construction of the Ningqi Railway double-track project.

The lake water is clear and rich in fishery resources such as silver carp, crucian carp, and freshwater shrimp. It also features aquatic plants like lotus and gorgon fruit. The lakeshore is home to wild birds and animals such as egrets, swans, pheasants, ducks, rabbits, and hedgehogs. The water quality has consistently met national Class II standards. With its beautiful environment and pleasant climate, it is a wellness destination for water sightseeing and lakeside recreation in the Yangtze River Delta.

The two islands in the lake center are named “Wisdom Island” and “Intellect Island.” “Wisdom Island” covers a total area of about 4.1 hectares, while “Intellect Island” covers about 2.5 hectares. “Wisdom Island” showcases a humanistic ecological landscape, while “Intellect Island” presents a natural ecological landscape.

1. Outdoor Amusement Park: Features large outdoor entertainment facilities such as a Ferris wheel, roller coaster, and rotating chairs.

2. Lake Touring Bicycles: Offers 20 bicycles for rent, including 2-seat, 3-seat, and 4-seat models for sightseeing.

3. Water Yachts: Includes 4 electric yachts seating 6 and 8 people, plus 1 Yamaha speedboat.

4. Seaplanes: Two light seaplanes operate takeoffs, landings, and sightseeing within the lake area, piloted by professionals.

5. Barbecue: A barbecue area is set up on the eastern side of the lake where visitors can bring their own grills and ingredients.

6. Fishing: A fishing area is available on the eastern side of the lake and is open to the public.

7. Kite Flying: Large kite flying zones are located at the southeastern corner of the lake and the main square, offering free access for flying large kites.

8. Fresh Lakefood Dining: The Longyou Lake Business Center is situated along North Huanhu Road and is open to the public.

9. Lakeside Plant Landscape Belt: The area around the lake is planted with distinctive greenery such as campsites, camphor forests, forest bathing areas, lotus worlds, colorful flower fields, wedding lawns, cherry blossom paths, sunflowers, and lavender fields, all freely open to visitors.

Visitor Center

Located on the south side of the west entrance, it provides services such as scenic area introductions, tickets, maps, and guided tours for visitors entering the area. It also houses a souvenir shop, supermarket, and postal service.

Writing Brush Stand Mountain

Located at the outermost west entrance of Longyou Lake, it consists of three artificially built pyramid-shaped earthen mounds — one 9 meters high and two 8 meters high — arranged in a staggered fashion to resemble a writing brush stand, welcoming visitors from all directions. The mounds are covered with green plants and decorated with seasonal flowers during holidays to create timely landscapes.

Sunset Corridor

Located in the center of the west entrance, there is one on each the north and south sides, each stretching 128 meters. They feature marble resting platforms that provide visitors with a place to relax. Integrated with the surrounding greenery, they themselves become a scenic highlight of Longyou Lake. The Happy World is situated at the southwestern corner of Longyou Lake and features outdoor amusement facilities such as a Ferris wheel.

Flower Trellis Walkway

Located between the Twin Bridge and the spillway, it stretches approximately 180 meters. The water between the two sides of the walkway is relatively calm, surrounded by lush greenery, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and spiritual enrichment.

Breeze Pavilion

Located on the eastern side of Longyou Lake, opposite the Pearl Square, the pavilion has a classic design with a hexagonal platform beneath it, offering a full view of the lake. Its name “Breeze” echoes the pavilion’s traditional style and signifies the natural beauty and fresh air one can enjoy here.

Moon Terrace

Functions as a boat dock, with its semi-circular shape extending into the water, serving as a key stop along the lake’s water routes. Named “Moon,” it not only complements the Breeze Pavilion but also offers one of the best spots to appreciate Longyou Lake’s night scenery. It also carries the poetic meaning of “a moonlit night evoking longing.” Watching the sunset from this platform is described as a “great joy in life.”

Sailing Pavilion

Extending into the water and located at the far end of the Dragon Eye Causeway, it is shaped like a billowing sail and stands as a scenic attraction itself. Inside, visitors can fully enjoy the lake view, relax, and experience a refreshing and uplifting atmosphere.

Dragon Beard Pier

Located at the northeastern corner of Longyou Lake, facing Jixiang Island. From the pier, visitors can enjoy views of both the lake and the island. The pier itself is made of wood, blending seamlessly with nature. Its winding design stretches deep into the water like a dragon's beard reaching into the lake, making it a great spot for tourists to admire the scenery. The unique shape of the pier is also a scenic attraction in itself.
