Residential Buildings in Jixian Lane

The residential buildings in Jixian Lane are a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Jiangsu Province.

The residential buildings in Jixian Lane are located in the southeast corner of Rucheng and to the west of Rugao Higher Normal School, now known as Maojia Lane. Jixian Lane got its name during the Northern Song Dynasty when the Wang family resided here, with multiple members successively achieving the status of Jinshi (advanced scholar) and Zhuangyuan (top imperial scholar). The locals took pride in this and named the area Jixian Lane, which means “Lane of Gathered Scholars,” reputed to be “a golden turtle pressing down on the button, producing great figures generation after generation.”

There are currently four Ming Dynasty residential complexes with 45 rooms in total. This architectural complex was designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage site by the Jiangsu Provincial Government on June 5, 2006.
