The Ming and Qing dynasty residential houses in Baipu Town are located on both sides of Xiucai Lane and Shidajie Street in the thousand-year-old town of Baipu, as well as on the west side of the Tongyang Canal, preserving the ancient architectural style and the timeless cultural charm of the Ming and Qing periods.

Among the Ming and Qing residential building complex, there are currently 26 well-preserved houses, consisting of 40 buildings and 142 rooms, with a total construction area of 3,672 square meters and a site area of 5,540 square meters. Notable structures include the Gu Family Residence, Shuangqing Hall, the former site of the Sino-American-British Truce Negotiation Group (American Presbyterian Church), Shuangtang House, Scripture Recital Tower, Shen Family (Shen Qi) Residence, Gaodamen Gate, Pawnshop, Money Shop, Ancient Theater Stage, Old Gate Hall, and Baochuntang on Shidajie Street. The entire architectural complex features winding lanes and a tranquil, secluded atmosphere, serving as a microcosm of the era that reflects the history of Baipu. It bears witness to the educational, cultural, political, and commercial activities of Baipu since the Ming and Qing dynasties, embodying the exceptional wisdom of the local people and representing an important historical legacy. It was designated as a cultural heritage site protected by Jiangsu Province in 2006.
