Shanyin Road Historic and Cultural Conservation Area

The Shanyin Road Historic and Cultural Conservation Area is located in the northeast corner of Hongkou District, encompassing Litang Road, Shanyin Road, Tian’ai Road, and the surrounding residential neighborhoods. This area preserves a mix of Shanghai’s 1930s and 1940s architecture, including Shikumen lane houses and garden villas, resembling an “open-air museum” of Shanghai-style residential buildings. Built in 1911, Shanyin Road is about 600 meters long and retains a large number of lane residences, detached and semi-detached garden homes, as well as high-end apartments—truly an exhibition of modern residential architecture in Shanghai.
