Attraction Introduction

Sweet Love Road is celebrated as Shanghai’s most romantic love street. Along both sides of the street, every two meters features a wooden frame engraved with 28 renowned love poems from China and abroad, creating a “Wall of Love.” At the intersection, there is also a heart-shaped mailbox. Many young people come here specifically to mail postcards stamped with a love postmark, sending romance and heartfelt emotions to their loved ones.

Sweet Love Road is a small street in Hongkou District. It starts from North Sichuan Road in the south and neighbors Lu Xun Park in the north, spanning only about 600 meters in length. Its romantic ambiance stems from a local legend akin to the Cowherd and Weaver Girl tale, and older generations believe that couples who walk hand-in-hand along this street will enjoy eternal and blissful love.

At the intersection of Sweet Love Road stands a bronze statue of a couple, and the roadside is lined with neat rows of tall metasequoia trees, offering ample shade in summer. The area features charming small Western-style houses, as well as numerous unique shops and cafes. Strolling down this street hand-in-hand with your partner, you can enjoy the rare urban tranquility and relive the feeling of being in love.

The unique heart-shaped mailbox here is extremely popular. Sending a postcard or letter stamped with a love postmark featuring the English word “LOVE” from this mailbox to your “him” or “her” is one of the simplest yet most romantic ways to express affection. Around Valentine’s Day, it’s not uncommon to see long queues at the window where these special stamps are applied.

Special Tips

The love postmark is circular, featuring two heart shapes, the words “Sweet Love Road,” the current date, the stylized English word “LOVE,” and “China Shanghai” at the bottom. To get the love postmark, you’ll need to go to the guard room at No. 1338 Liyang Road, Hongkou District (Sichuan North Road Subdistrict Office). From the intersection of Sweet Love Road, walk south along North Sichuan Road, then turn east onto Liyang Road and walk about 300 meters.
