Liyang Road is located in the Lu Xun Park area in the central part of Hongkou District, stretching from Hongkou Port by the Huangpu River in the south to North Sichuan Road in the north. Originally named Diversey Road, it was renamed to its current name in 1943. As it was developed relatively early, most structures along both sides of the road are traditional lane houses and warehouse complexes. Notable buildings include the former residence of Guo Moruo, the book storage room of Lu Xun, the pre-liberation Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions, the former residences of Cao Juren and Jin Zhonghua, among others. The area is especially famous for its cluster of garden-style villas. Liyang Road consists of two sections, separated by Siping Road in the middle.
