The Comrade Zhang Qiong Memorial Room is a patriotic education base.

The Comrade Zhang Qiong Memorial Room is situated within the First Central Primary School of Hongkou District. Established in September 1990, it is a district-level patriotic education base in Hongkou. Comrade Zhang Qiong joined the revolution early on alongside comrades Mao Zedong and Liu Shaoqi, dedicating 60 years to the Party’s educational cause. After the liberation, she served successively as a secretary in the Secretariat Group of the Shanghai Municipal Education Trade Union, head of the Cultural and Educational Section of the Hongkou District People's Government, deputy district chief, and the first principal of the First Central Primary School of Hongkou District. She was elected multiple times as a representative to the municipal and district people's congresses and as a member of the municipal and district political consultative conferences.

The memorial room covers a construction area of nearly 200 square meters and features exhibits on the life of Comrade Zhang Qiong, inscriptions from leaders, and more. The room also displays photographic materials depicting her participation in worker strikes and revolutionary movements during the democratic revolution period, her continued revolutionary activities after the failure of the Great Revolution while enduring severe torture and life-and-death tests from enemies, as well as images related to her dedication to the Party’s educational cause after the liberation.

Zhang Qiong (1902–1981)

Zhang Qiong, female, originally named Zhu Shunhua, was from Rucheng County, Hunan Province. In August 1914, during the third year of the Republic of China (1914), she was admitted to the Third Normal School of Hunan Province. In 1919, with the help of Mao Zedong and Yang Kaihui, she broke through the obstruction of the school and her feudal bureaucratic family to participate in the May Fourth Movement and joined the New People’s Study Society. In 1922, she was introduced to join the Communist Party of China by Yang Kaihui and Liu Shaoqi.
