Shanghai Music Valley Scenic Area
Shanghai Music Valley Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.
Shanghai Music Valley is located in the central part of Hongkou District, geographically linking the Duolun Road-Sichuan North Road commercial street with the North Bund shipping and financial hub. Within the area, three rivers—Hongkou Port, Yujingpu, and Shajingpu—converge here, forming the most unique waterfront community in Shanghai's urban landscape.
The music valley includes 8 projects, namely the National Music Industry Base, 1933 Old Millfun, Peninsula Bay Fashion & Cultural Creative Industrial Park, Old Foreign Firm 1913, 1930 Xinxin Creative Park, SNH48 Dream Theater, Triangle Art Park, and Music Valley Visitor Center.
1. National Music Industry Base: Located at No. 46 Liaoning Road, it is the first officially approved national-level key cultural heritage protection unit dedicated to the music industry. The music production center, audio-visual product distribution center, and public service platform for art training have taken initial shape. The Music Property Rights Trading Center of the Shanghai Cultural Property Rights Exchange has also signed an agreement to settle in the park. Meanwhile, the park has established cooperative relationships with multiple associations and organizations such as the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the China Audio-Video Copyright Association, the National Copyright Base, and the National Music Industry Base (Guangzhou and Shenzhen parks), as well as dozens of domestic and international music companies, institutions, and artists.
2. 1933 Old Millfun: Located at No. 29 Shajing Road, built in 1933 with funding from the Municipal Council and designed by a renowned British architect, the site covers a total construction area of approximately 31,700 square meters. It gathers international cuisine, shopping, theatrical and musical performances, and has become one of Shanghai’s well-known fashion landmarks, favored by numerous internationally and domestically renowned brands. It has successfully created the “1933 Cultural Left Bank Drama Performance Brand,” staging over 300 performances to date, making it a true “new theatrical paradise in an old building.”
3. Peninsula Bay Fashion & Cultural Creative Industrial Park: Located at No. 735 Liyang Road, the Peninsula Bay Fashion & Cultural Creative Industrial Park, newly opened in 2013 on the basis of the former Shanghai Xinshi Testing Machine Factory, is oriented toward the development of the fashion culture industry. It attracts technology innovation, multimedia technology, information exchange (mobile internet content industry), and cultural creative enterprises. Numerous well-known domestic and international companies have settled here, including 163 NetEase, Shanghai Zhangjiang Chaoyi Multimedia Systems Co., Ltd., and QiSi Industrial Design Consulting (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. In addition, the park’s distinctive three-sided water scenery, along with creative installation art and landscape design, make it a multimedia demonstration base in Music Valley and even Shanghai, integrating commerce, culture, tourism, and technology.
4. Old Foreign Firm 1913: Located at No. 160 Harbin Road, the 1913 Old Foreign Firm on Harbin Road covers an area of 2,539 square meters. Built in the 1920s, it served as the annex ice factory for the Municipal Council Slaughterhouse before liberation, and later became the cold storage for the Shanghai Beef and Mutton Factory. The current “Old Foreign Firm 1913” continues the European style and British charm of the original architecture, carefully preserving the distinctive British steel columns, plain cement pillars, and flooring from a century ago. 1913 aims to become an influential digital music park in Shanghai, with over 30 cultural communication and digital media enterprises already settled in the park.
5. 1930 Xinxin Creative Park: Located at No. 244 Liaoning Road, the entire building was originally constructed in 1930 as an old warehouse by British merchants. Its exterior and interior fully showcase typical British Victorian architectural style. The park faces the famous Shanghai “1933 Old Millfun” across the river. The park has introduced a large number of high-end creative design enterprises with leading fashion brand influence from China and abroad, many from Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, Singapore, France, and other countries. Together with the Shanghai International Design Exchange Center brand park, it jointly builds a platform centered on “fashion design” and starting with “visual design,” attracting more designers through gathering and nurturing, exchanging and disseminating, as well as releasing and showcasing.
6. SNH48 Dream Theater: Located at No. 267 Jiaxing Road, the SNH48 Dream Theater is the first comprehensive exclusive theater in China tailor-made for an idol group and is expected to become a new landmark for China’s new generation of idol culture. It was entirely renovated from the former Shanghai Jiaxing Cinema, one of the first movie theaters in 1930s Shanghai. With a total investment of over RMB 20 million, in addition to a fully equipped modern performance facility that can accommodate about 340 audience members, it also houses a fan café, an idol merchandise shop, a terrace-style event space, and affiliated commercial shops. Its post-opening operational goal is to gradually achieve 365 days of uninterrupted performances, offering extremely affordable popular ticket prices and a variety of interactive activities such as fan handshake events to continuously serve the audience, consolidate and expand both domestic and international fan bases, gradually build a massive fan community, and reach the point of influence explosion to realize SNH48’s ambition of becoming a national idol group.
7. Triangle Art Park: Located at No. 260 Jiaxing Road, formerly the headquarters of the Human-Powered Vehicle Mutual Aid Society. Aimed at developing the cultural and creative industry with a focus on music culture, it introduces fashion design, film and media, culture and arts, music talent cultivation, and related enterprises and institutions.
