Former Site of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee Liaison Office

Located at No. 135, Yong’an Li, Lane 1953, North Sichuan Road. According to the 2013 publication *Early Traces of the Chinese Communist Party in Shanghai*, jointly produced by the Party History Research Office of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CPC and the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage: In 1928, Huang Ren, who was working in the editorial department of *Bolshevik*, the central organ of the CCP, was tasked with establishing a liaison office for central meetings here. Initially, Huang Ren and his wife, along with their parents, lived here to provide cover for the office. In the autumn of the same year, Huang Ren was transferred to serve as head of the Secretariat of the Central Committee and moved out. Zhou Enlai then arranged for Zhang Jien and Zhang Yuexia to live here under the guise of a married couple. At the time, Zhang Jien was in charge of the Document Reading Office of the Central Secretariat. Central leaders came here to review and handle documents; Zhou Enlai, Luo Dengxian, Li Weihan, and others all held meetings here to discuss work. Soon after, the office was relocated to Qinghefang on Zhejiang Road. Additionally, Qin Yijun, the wife of Xu Baohao (a member of the CCP Central Supervisory Commission and Party Group Secretary of the Shanghai General Trade Union), once lived on the third floor. After Xu Baohao was martyred in June 1928, Chen Duxiu visited her several times to offer condolences. (He Ying)

On April 4, 2014, the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government designated and announced the Former Site of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee Liaison Office as a Shanghai Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit (Shanghai Government Document No. 29 [2014]).
