Yabuli Ski Resort is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, located 20 kilometers southeast of Yabuli Town in Shangzhi City, 197 kilometers from Harbin City, and 90 kilometers from Mudanjiang City. It is directly accessible via a branch of National Highway 301. The resort consists of three peaks of the Zhangguangcai Range in the Changbai Mountains: the main peak Daguo kuai Mountain at an elevation of 1374.8 meters, the second peak Erguo kuai Mountain at 1100 meters, and the third peak Sanguo kuai Mountain at 1000 meters.

Yabuli Ski Resort

Yabuli Ski Resort is composed of Windmill Villa, the State Sports Commission, Traffic Villa, Daqingshan Ski Field, Communications Villa, Electric Power Villa, Yunding Villa, Hanhaobo Ski Field, and local farmhouses. It is located in Shangzhi City in the eastern part of Heilongjiang Province, 197 kilometers from Harbin and 90 kilometers from Mudanjiang. The extreme minimum temperature here is -44°C, the average temperature is -10°C, the snow accumulation period is 170 days, and the skiing season lasts nearly 150 days. The best time for skiing is from mid-November to late March each year.

Ecological Environment

The entire ski area is surrounded by mountains, with dense forests and thick snow, offering spectacular scenery. The main peak of Guokuai Mountain, Sanguo kuai, has been developed into a large-scale tourist ski field. Daguo kuai and Erguo kuai were once race tracks for the 3rd Asian Winter Games and are now training bases for national ski athletes.

The facilities at Yabuli Ski Field are very complete, with a total of 11 beginner, intermediate, and advanced ski runs. Its alpine ski runs are the longest in Asia. The ski field also features a 5-kilometer loop cross-country ski trail, as well as dedicated tracks for snowmobiles and sleds. There are 3 chairlifts, 3 T-bar lifts, and 1 platter lift. The ski field is equipped with multiple snowmaking machines, snow groomers, snowmobiles, and other modern ski resort machinery. The ski runs have multiple chairlifts and tow lifts, allowing skiers to access all runs without removing their skis.

Ice and Snow Resources

In terms of the number of ski runs, their length, vertical drop, and overall level of ski facilities and services, Yabuli Ski Field far surpasses other ski resorts in China and is undoubtedly the best ski resort in the country. It is the ideal venue for competitive and recreational skiing. It successfully hosted all snow events of the 3rd Asian Winter Games in 1996 and is also the permanent venue for the Annual Meeting of the China Entrepreneurs Forum, earning the reputation of "China's Davos."

Yabuli Ski Resort is located 1908 kilometers east of Harbin and 120 kilometers from Mudanjiang City. Originally named Yabuloni, meaning "orchard" in Russian, it was once a hunting ground for the imperial family and Manchu nobility during the Qing Dynasty. The Yabuli mountain range features high elevations and dense forests, with an altitude of 137.4 meters and an average annual temperature of 2–10°C. In winter, the snow depth at the foot of the mountain is 30–50 centimeters, while the mountain top accumulates snow up to about one meter deep, with excellent snow quality and moderate hardness. The annual snow accumulation period is 170 days, and the skiing season lasts 120 days, making it one of the best places in China for competitive and recreational skiing.

Yabuli Ski Resort is divided into a competitive skiing area and a recreational skiing area. The competitive skiing area has nine alpine ski runs, seven cross-country ski runs, and six ski lifts, including one six-person gondola and one windproof chairlift. It also features one international-standard freestyle ski jump, a 90-meter alpine ski jump, a biathlon shooting range, and an indoor stadium.

The recreational skiing area, known as Windmill Villa, is a world-class ski resort and four-season holiday village developed and invested in by China International Futures Brokerage Co., Ltd. It is open to domestic and international tourists year-round. From February 4 to 11, 1996, it served as the Yabuli Athletes' Village for the 3rd Asian Winter Games, hosting winter sports athletes from across Asia as well as domestic and international visitors.

Yabuli Ski Resort (a Sino-American joint venture) is China’s first large-scale tourist ski resort that meets international standards. It has 15 ski runs of varying difficulty levels, one cross-country ski run, totaling 30 kilometers in length, and three ski lifts. It also features the world’s longest 2,680-meter summer sledding track (dry land toboggan), imported from Germany, offering activities such as alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, sledding, snowmobiling, dog sledding, horse-drawn sleigh rides, ice skating on the lake, building snowmen, and snow fireworks bonfire parties. There are also designated children’s skiing entertainment areas and traditional windmill skiing zones. Additionally, the resort provides ski equipment rental shops and ski schools, with multiple bars, fast-food restaurants, shopping centers, Red Cross first aid stations, and international and domestic long-distance telephone services, among other support facilities, located at the mountaintop, mid-mountain, and base areas.

Windmill Villa boasts vast grounds and picturesque scenery in all seasons. A collection of uniquely styled windmill villas recreates classic windmills from around the world since the 14th century. Eleven neoclassical windmills form the “Child of the Earth” windmill, which also functions as a power generator and light display. Windmill Villa integrates architectural art and environmental design, earning the title of “World Museum of Windmills.”

Transportation to Yabuli Ski Resort is very convenient. It is 1908 kilometers from Harbin, with a travel time of about two hours and thirty minutes, and 120 kilometers from Mudanjiang Airport, with a travel time of about one hour and thirty minutes. The “Ski Resort Expressway” directly connecting Harbin to Yabuli has been opened, making travel for vacationers quick and convenient.

In addition, Yabuli is also ideal for leisure and vacation in summer and autumn. The forests are lush in summer, and the foliage is stunningly colorful in autumn. Wuhua Mountain Viewing Festival

Autumn is the most beautiful season in Yabuli. Every year in late September, the China Heilongjiang Forest “Wuhua Mountain” Viewing Festival kicks off at Yabuli Windmill Villa. At the same time, the “Chasing ‘Wuhua Mountain’ Self-Drive Tour of Heilongjiang” event and the “Heilongjiang Autumn Tourism Photography Exhibition” are also officially launched here. The Wuhua Mountain Viewing Festival was established in 1999 and has been successfully held for seven editions to date.
