The Mao'ershan Alpine Ski Resort of the Harbin Institute of Physical Education was built in 2004. Located southwest of Mao'ershan Town, Shangzhi City, Heilongjiang Province, it is 88 kilometers from downtown Harbin and covers an area of approximately 2.6 million square meters. It is one of only two 5S-level modern comprehensive ski resorts in Heilongjiang Province that integrate teaching, research, training, competition, and tourism.

The resort has now become a base for winter sports training for Chinese university students, national snowboarding training, and extracurricular activities for primary and secondary school students in Heilongjiang Province. It also undertakes the training of athletes as well as vocational skills training for coaches, ski guides, ski patrol personnel, and machinery operators. It provides talent and resource support for the promotion of skiing among millions of youths in Heilongjiang Province and across China, as well as for national fitness and the popularization of mass skiing.

The Mao'ershan Alpine Ski Resort of the Harbin Institute of Physical Education has successfully hosted numerous major domestic and international sporting events. In 2009, during China’s first hosting of the 24th Winter Universiade, the resort undertook competitions in 2 major events and 16 sub-events. Its facilities and services received full recognition and praise from the International University Sports Federation (FISU). Today, it has not only become a nationally certified comprehensive international ski resort capable of hosting both domestic and international winter sports events, but also meets the needs of various types of skiing enthusiasts, including recreational, professional, backcountry, and extreme skiers.

Currently, the Mao'ershan Alpine Ski Resort of the Harbin Institute of Physical Education is further expanding into outdoor activities, mountain golf (currently 9 holes), and tourism. Railways, road access, and a parking lot of nearly 5,000 square meters provide convenient transportation for skiing and outdoor sports enthusiasts. The three-star Athletes’ Apartment and the 11,000-square-meter comprehensive resort hotel are fully open to visitors, with high-, medium-, and low-grade guest rooms to meet various needs. A 300-person multimedia conference hall and a 50-person panoramic business room offer elegant environments for business meetings, scientific seminars, and other events of all sizes. The 1,000-square-meter sunny restaurant, stylish private dining rooms, and delicious cuisine make meals another highlight after skiing. Professional indoor facilities for badminton, table tennis, and tennis, Wi-Fi coverage throughout the resort, and a 24-hour bathing center offer visitors a new level of comfort.
