Sophia Square is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Sophia Square is located on the beautiful southern bank of the Songhua River, covering an area of 50,000 square meters. It is renowned both at home and abroad for its unique architectural landscape and European-style charm. The iconic building in the area — Sophia Church — is a national key cultural relics protection unit. Built in 1907, it was once the largest Eastern Orthodox church in the Far East, noted for its grand scale and majestic beauty. The central leisure square and the architectural art square are both open cultural squares within the scenic area. In summer, they are covered with lush green grass and blooming flowers, with dancing musical fountains adding a colorful touch. In winter, they are blanketed in snow, with large-scale ice sculptures creating a spectacular and unique scene. The scenic area features modern specialized exhibition halls, including a massive urban construction planning sand table with a scale of 1:600 and a total area of nearly 400 square meters, which is truly remarkable. The area also offers a full range of leisure and entertainment options and supporting service facilities such as laser halls, information ports, movie bars, roller skating rinks, beer squares, and cold drink squares. Regular cultural activities such as the “Harbin Old Photos Exhibition” and song and dance evenings attract both domestic and international tourists for leisure, entertainment, sightseeing, and travel.

Admission to Sophia Church requires purchasing a ticket. Upon entering and looking straight up, you will see a replica of Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.” There are some small shops selling Russian goods at the four corners of the square.

Best Time to Visit

Harbin is located at the northernmost part of China and is the country’s most northerly and coldest major city. Take bus routes 1, 2, 13, 15, 64, 66, or 113 to Harbin No.1 Department Store or Fashion Building... Get off at Harbin No.1 Department Store or Fashion Building; take bus routes 53 or 114 and get off at Zhongyang Dajie (Central Street) Station.

Route via Bus 13 takes about 50 minutes / 11.9 km. Walk 610 meters to Municipal Government Station in Harbin, take Bus 29 for 4 stops and get off at Municipal People's Congress Station, then take Bus 13 for 5 stops and get off at Liansheng Plaza Station. Walk 160 meters to Sophia Square.
