Stalin Park was built in 1953 and was originally called "Riverside Park." The park is situated on the southern bank of the Songhua River in the city center, stretching from west to Jiuzhan Park, with a total length of 1,750 meters. It is an open, strip-shaped park built along the embankment and the river, facing the world-renowned "Sun Island" scenic area across the water. Covering an area of 105,000 square meters, it gained fame both at home and abroad for its imitation of Russian classical architectural style, colorful "five-color grass flower stands" scattered throughout the park, and sixteen sets of artistic sculptures such as "Swan Spreading Wings," "Three Youths," "Starting Off," "Diving," and "Fencing," which are distributed among the green spaces. It is a formally designed park that runs east-west along the riverbank, stretching one kilometer in length and 50 meters in width.

It incorporates European garden design and refines it, featuring the simple and rugged characteristics typical of northern people, setting it apart uniquely among the many parks nationwide. The park’s flower stands, sculptures, lawns, benches, lanterns, railings, and Russian classical-style toy-like buildings are novel and distinctive, creating a wonderfully fairytale-like world.

Before the 1950s, this area was a railway siding and shipping dock. In 1953, it was transformed into a distinctive, strip-shaped, riverside park built along the embankment and the water. It features flower stands, trees, Russian classical-style toy-like buildings, Roman colonnades, benches, railings, and the Harbin People's Flood Control Memorial Tower.

In summer, the park is covered with lush green grass, rows of tall trees provide cool shade for visitors, and vibrant flowers bloom competitively. On the wide and clear Songhua River, a gentle breeze blows as small boats drift leisurely. On the sunbaked sandy beaches, colorful tents vie for attention. In the river, people splash and play amid laughter and liveliness. In winter, the park is draped in silvery white, with the ice and snow creating stunning views. Admiring the rime-covered trees, riding ice sails, and sledding are refreshing experiences. The entire scenic area centers around the “Flood Control Memorial Tower,” renowned for its Russian classical architectural style. It is also a symbol of Harbin, built to commemorate the city’s residents overcoming two major floods.

The park also houses sports and cultural entertainment venues such as a gymnasium, youth center, bathing beach, and riverside club. In the deep winter, the park is wrapped in silvery white, with glistening trees and branches, presenting a true northern landscape. It is an ideal place for viewing rime, as well as engaging in activities such as ice sailing, sledding, ice skating, and winter swimming. It combines sightseeing, shopping, and entertainment. Here, you can admire vivid land art installations, purchase unique travel goods and Russian merchandise, showcase your creativity by making ice and snow sculptures, and ride giant ice slides that take you directly from the embankment into the riverside scenic area.
