Harbin Guxiang Park

Harbin Guxiang Park is located on the southern bank of the Songhua River and was built based on the Guxiang Dam. It stretches from Zero Kilometer of the River Embankment (Huaxing Street) in the west to Heluo Square (Songhua River Highway Bridge) in the east, covering a total length of 2,860 meters and an area of 37.4 hectares. It is an open riverside park.

Before the park was built, this area was an earthen dam, bordered by a mixed forest to the south, the Songhua River to the north, and a grassy floodplain beneath the embankment. Overgrown with wild grass and rarely visited by people, it boasted beautiful scenery and a natural, untamed charm.

Park construction began in 1987, consisting of a flood control channel and a secondary embankment, with a developed area of 11 hectares. It was completed and opened to the public in 1988. From April 2004 to 2006, the area beneath the embankment — namely the Pine and Cypress Eco-Park — was developed in three phases. The first group of visitors was welcomed on September 30, 2004. This expansion increased the park’s scenic area to 37.4 hectares. It now consists of the Four Seasons Garden — with 11 hectares of viewing space on the flood control channel and secondary embankment — and the Pine and Cypress Eco-Park, which offers 26.4 hectares of viewing space beneath the embankment. It is an important part of the city’s 52-li-long riverside belt park and serves as a scenic, flood-control, and landscaping integrated linear waterfront park.
